My goal as an Artist: The role of scientific illustrators is to take a scientific concept and visualize it in a way that most people can understand. Oftentimes, there is still a gap between highly technical science and what can be readily understood.
Moving across the country every few years as a child and studying abroad gave me to unique opportunity to see how a huge variety of cultures view the scientific world; from superstition, to textbook science, to folk history, to metropolitan conservation. How people understand how stuff works is as fascinating as the science itself. My goal is to bridge that gap of technical and observable science. My work condenses a big idea into small, more understandable chunks. For me as a scientific artist, nothing is better to hear when someone views my work than, “Ohh! I understand now!”
